Duties of Ushers at St. Agnes Masses
Summary: Assist those attending Mass with seating, attend to offertory collections, and pick up any papers in the pews after Mass.
Details:
Arrive 10 minutes before Mass to prepare ourselves spiritually, and to get set-up / arrange for the ushers to assist with the service (make yourselves known to the “leads”) so orderly assignments can be made.
Except in stormy weather, keep open the center two rear door sets to the Church up to 10 minutes prior to Mass time.
Help make the Mass experience for our parishioners to be a positive encounter with God…….be an instrument of hospitality by having Jesus not only in our hearts, but on our faces……be welcoming, be hospitable, smile, and be helpful in assisting individuals that have a need. Above all, make the Church a safe environment for all.
Encourage the use of usher badges so parishioners can identify you if in need…..badges located in cabinet, on wall, near the kitchen in the back of Church.
Welcome new parishioners / faces by introducing yourself, or just saying hello, good morning / evening.
Invite / encourage other family members / parishioners to assist with the Mass.
Arrange / set-up the family or individual to bring the “gifts” down the center aisle at Communion.
Assist with the first and second collections (after Communion) during Mass (one usher each for the far right and left side aisles, one usher for the “Family Room” and the open seating in front of the “Family Room”, and two ushers for the center aisle to serve the two larger seating sections.
Assist parishioners with coming out of the aisles for Communion so the process is timely and orderly.
Be sensitive with children that are disturbing parishioners around them by reminding parents / guardians that the “Family Room/Cry Room” is available if interested.
Assist, if needed, with the distribution of Sunday bulletins after Mass at the Church
entrances.
